The Ultimate Countdown: Last-Minute Tips for the 2026 GCSE Chinese Exam

The final countdown for the Summer 2026 GCSE exams is officially on. According to the latest exam schedule, the 2026 GCSE Chinese exams kick off on Monday, 11 May. This final stretch is all about staying calm and double-checking the finer details. To help you prepare, our team has put together this "Ultimate Pre-Exam Kit" based on the official guidelines from the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) and Pearson Edexcel.

Official 2026 GCSE Chinese Exam Dates

Pearson Edexcel is the main exam board offering the GCSE Cantonese option. Parents and students, please double-check the times on your statement of entry:

Papers 1 & 3 (Listening & Reading): Monday, 11 May — Edexcel / AQA

Paper 4 (Writing): Monday, 18 May — Edexcel / AQA

Exam Room Rules & Essential Checklist

To ensure everything goes smoothly and stays fully compliant with JCQ guidelines, please strictly follow these exam rules:

  • Stationery Requirements: You must write in black ballpoint pen. We recommend bringing at least two pens, kept inside a clear pencil case.

  • Banned Items: Mobile phones, smartwatches, correction tape/fluid, and any paper notes are strictly forbidden inside the exam hall.

  • Water Bottle Rules: Your water bottle must be made of clear plastic, and the label must be completely removed to prevent any cheating.

  • Punctuality: Aim to arrive outside the exam room 10 to 15 minutes before it starts. Please note that some exam halls lock their doors once the exam begins. If you do happen to run late, stay calm, speak politely to the exam invigilators, and slip into your seat as quietly as possible to start your paper.

Last-Minute Tips from the Teachers

1. Read the questions Carefully: In the Edexcel Reading paper, pay extra attention to whether the question asks for an answer in English or Chinese. Mixing up the languages will cost you the marks.

2. Listening Strategies: Focus is everything in the listening exam. If you miss something on the first listen, use the second playback to catch it. If you completely miss a question, don't sweat it—move on immediately and focus on the next one.

3. Keep Your Energy Up: You are allowed to bring a small snack (like biscuits) into the hall, but it must be completely unwrapped and kept in a clear container.

Make sure to get plenty of rest the night before.

We wish all of our students the absolute best of luck in their 2026 GCSEs. Go out there, show them what you can do, and smash it!
